Biography 315: Interviews in my life.

I shouldn't be scared of any interview. Whatever is meant to happen, it happens. I did very well in those interviews, where I didn't get scared at all because I knew they wouldn't select me. So, I just be myself.

Before the interview, the interviewer may say, "Just be yourself." But actually, they just want to get to know you better. They will judge everything they observe. They will speak to you as if their life is filled with happiness only because you have shown up for the interview. They are your best friend.

Never fall into this trap. They just want you to feel free to share everything about yourself so they can understand your negative side, too, and reject you.

The interview process is almost the same everywhere, and the questions are similar. Only a few new questions will be added by the interviewer.

I have given my first interview after passing grade 10. I didn't want to go alone, so I took my cousin Titu with me. When they called me into the room, I walked inside. I didn't know Titu would come with me too and sit beside me. But I didn't want to say anything in front of the company owner.

The owner was looking for a part-time teacher for his coaching company. He had other organizations, too. However, the salary they offered was very low. I told him it wouldn't cover my rickshaw fare to and from my home. Deep inside, I knew that if someone else got this opportunity, they would have accepted and made the journey by bus.

I have given many interviews in Bangladesh. I didn't have much hope, just kept trying. In Canada, the same things happen. When I tried for an entry-level job, I got it immediately. Things changed when I was looking for a better job. I have been living and working in Canada for 10 years. I should get something better. So now, the application and interview process has started. Here, in most cases, they select their already chosen candidate. They must have a corporate reason for conducting interviews without real intentions.

Maybe someday, some organization will feel like working with me. I am a sincere person. Wherever I work, I work sincerely. Every company did well after my joining. I hope to maintain my good record everywhere.

Biography 314: To live in the USA

My Boro Khala (aunt, mom's older sister) asked me to come to the USA. She is living there now. We were in Bangladesh at that time. I said I have heard newcomers have to do odd jobs to survive. I don't want to do that. She replied, Educated people don't need to do odd jobs. Come and enjoy life in the USA.

I didn't feel like living over there, so I just smiled and said no. Khala didn't argue, and I like her attitude this way. I don't like being forced to do anything; nobody does. But people always pressure others to live the way they prescribe.

Inflation

[I am sure you all won't agree with me, it's just my thoughts]

If corruption is there, then I can't expect anything. I can only hope it won't continue generation after generation. However, if the government has the slightest chance to work for the people, I will say it should have control over product pricing. People can't just increase prices as much as they want and keep making trillions of benefits.

One job should be enough for a person to live. People should not consider how they will pay for the rent or food. They should have basic expenses in their bank account if they have a job.

When a person works for more than one job, it harms their body and mind fitness and the work quality in the workplace. To have a better performance in a job, employers should think about it.

Recruit more people

There are many government offices, where we apply for service or permission or for any other reason. Then we wait. We keep waiting for days, months, and sometimes years. I can understand they might have too many applications and people need time to review them all. But I think when it is taking too long why don't you recruit more people. I am sure many people like me are looking for a good job.

Ratings

Rating became very important when you have too many competitors. Before we watch a movie, we check the rating. When we are buying furniture online, we check ratings.

In the same way, whenever you are taking for any services, they are asking you to rate.

In most cases, I don't rate. Because I don't want to give anyone a negative rating. The service was that person's earning source, I just can't give any negative mark on it.

But I also didn't like the service. So, I'm not going to give good ratings. I can't give the wrong message to other customers, right?

For example, when I take a ride from Uber, I found some cars are clean, some not. Some drivers are very good with chatting with customers, some don't talk, some don't turn on AC, even in the heat-alert weather, some are driving rough, not maintaining road rules. What to say, I don't want to hurt any of them. It's their earning source.

This is me

When I came from Bangladesh to Saskatchewan, I expectation was pretty high. Though I knew, there will be some expected and unexpected problems. One of my friends told me, if I became choosy in the selection of work/earn money, it may take some time to find a good one. But if I start working anything or anywhere then I might get a job immediately and can have a good life with that amount of money.

So, in my mind, I didn't make any aim for a job or life. I was ready to start with anything and go on living with any work. Still, I am like that but my physical condition makes me a little selective. I can't do any standing job anymore. My feet hurt.

I know I am good at any job. Maybe I take a little time to learn my work then I can go on working smoothly. I improve the current work system and helps others to do a better job. Soon the whole branch or company starting doing good. But I'm a silent worker. I never go to my boss or superior to show what I have done. Or make any complaint about others. So, no one notices. Then for any strong reason, if I left, the whole system falls down. Nobody still doesn't know or care who they need to run things well. What can I say, if my absence doesn't bother you, maybe you don't need my presence.

But it doesn't mean I will change myself for others. I will keep doing good wherever I go. I will fix things wherever I can. I won't wait for others to appraise me. This is me, when I am somewhere, good things will keep happening around you and you will never know who is behind it.

Running other peoples mind

It’s an old game. People who want to run other people as they wish, they always plays some simple tricks. And in most cases it works. I know, it’s not good, we should let other people do whatever they think better. That’s why I never try this with other. But that doesn’t mean that they won’t try it on me. They did and succeed.

For example, somehow if I became little sick in office, one colleague or boss might give me advice, go home and take leave, you have couple of months leave pending. After few months you can easily come back and work again. First I thought no I can work with this sickness. But this info that I have couple of months leave which I can utilize get inside in my brain. So, I changed my mind (I have seen my first thought is always right), I told them OK, I am listening to you, and I will take my leave…. And you know what happen? They let me enjoy my leave and took my job.
