Biography 232: Norwegian owner

Every country has a different work environment. Traditionally, offices benefit the employees. When I started working with a Norwegian owner, I learned some office decorum I think everyone should follow. I am unsure if it is Norwegian culture or the owner's choice.

In Bangladesh, the office generally doesn't organize any party for all employees. If they have any party, they invite the office worker, not their spouse or entire family. The office generally doesn't organize to travel anywhere. If some office does, they never let them take their family with them. The main reason behind this is that the office doesn't invest that much money in the employees and the number of people would be too many to manage.

When I had the Norwegian owners, I found they invited all employees with their spouses. Later, they started asking everyone to bring their kids, too. This way, everybody can enjoy the time with their families, too. The families became known to the company, and colleagues were also meeting with all families. This way, their bindings are increasing.

Our company also arranged a trip to an amusement park and a river cruise for all employees, their partners, and their kids. Everyone enjoyed the outing together.

I introduced the idea of taking lunch together once a month after getting the paycheck. Here, everybody paid their own bill. This way, all employees and owners get a chance to have lunch together. It brings joy to the working environment and togetherness.

The office also used to arrange birthday parties. All employees give gifts together or personally. My birthday and our colleague Asif bro's were on the same day. We used to cut the cake together. Still, every year we send "Happy Birthday" message to each other.

These little bindings made the office environment memorable.

Trust nobody

A journalist asked to one of the richest persons of this world, to know how she became so successful. She replied, “Trust nobody. If you have no choice, then trust for some time.”

I think this is really a very important message to the company holders. You shouldn’t trust anybody blindly in your company. Sometimes senior workers earned your trust. But they will also become experts on what you think in which situation. So that they can easily do their things where you have no idea. They can place traps for other newbies whom they don’t like and make them looser in front of you, as they know for which situation you will be mad at them. If you trust blindly, you will become a doll for them, with whom they can easily play and made instruction about what they want.

So again trust nobody, if you have to trust then trust for limited of time. Always try to check everything (Randomly) of your company by yourself.
