MY all-time favorite song

MY all-time favourite song ;) Especially when I am in need of money :)

Album: Kabhi To Nazar Milao
Music: Adnan Sami
Lyrics: Riaz Ur Rehman Saghar
Singer: Adnan Sami
Starring: Adnan Sami, Govinda
Label: Magnasound / Sony Music

teri oonchi shaan hai maula,
meri arzee maan le maula
tu hai sab kuchh jaan-ne waala,
main hoon teraa maan-ne waala
mujhko bhi to lift kara de,
thoRi see to lift kara de

O Lord, your grandness is great,
listen to my plea, O Lord.
You are the omniscient,
I am a believer of yours.
get me to lift up too,
at least lift me up a little bit.

bangla motor car dila de,
ek nahee do chaar dila de
mujhko aeroplane dila de,
duniya bhar kee sair kara de
kaise kaison ko diya hai,
aise vaison ko diya hai

get me a bungalow and a car,
not one, get me a few.
get me an aeroplane,
and make me travel the world.
you have given to all and sundry
given to just anyone..

mujhko bhi to lift kara de,
thodee see to lift kara de

dollar de ya pound de de
cash de de, check bana de
dirham-o-dinar de de
koyi chhapar phaaR maula,
apni jebein jhaaR maula
ab to mujhko maal de de,
aur naa ab Taal, de de

give me dollars or pounds,
give me cash or write me a check.
give me Dirhams or Dinars.
do some miracle, O Lord,
[chhappar phaaRna is literally to break the roof, but is an idiom used for God giving in huge amount.]
shed a bit from your pockets, O Lord,
give me some money,
don't stave me off anymore, now give me.

mujhko bhi toh lift kara de,
thoDee see toh lift kara de

sona de ya chandee de de
heere de de, motee de de
noTon kee barsaat kar de
tune khud hi to kaha hai,
deta hoon jo maangta hai
kab se banda maang raha hai,
kab se line me khaRa hai

Give me gold, or silver,
Give me diamonds or pearls,
rain banknotes..
you yourself have said,
that you give to one who asks..
for so long I've been asking,
for so long I'm in the queue..

mujhko bhi to lift kara de,
thoRi see toh lift kara de

Biography 114: Water tap

Our school building was two-storied. One day I and my friend Ankhi (Sohana Afrin) was standing on the balcony and talking. From our place, we could see the ground and the front area of our kitchen. There was a water tap over there. We saw somebody didn't turn it off. Water was running.

I was thinking someone must be working near that place and for any reason or just forget to turn it off. They will come back soon. But after a minute we saw it was in the same condition. Ankhi couldn't wait. She said, let's go downstairs and turn off the tap. I replied, OK.

We went down through the stairs and go near to the tap and saw somebody turned it off by this time. I smiled, didn't regret it. Ankhi was saying, "Allah must have given some good points for this action, we did a good job." Maybe she thought I am disappointed with her, but no. It's ok to go downstairs and come back. We were young.

Respect

During the lunch break, I was with my co-workers in the lunchroom. Actually, they came from another company to do some contract work. Their skin is white and I don't know what is their origin. It's a little difficult in Canada to know who is from where. Those guys were speaking in English.

From my cell phone app, the Azan sounded. Those guys stopped the music that they were playing and after the Azaan they again started it. I prepared (I always keep a small mud tray to make tayammum) and sit in a chair in a corner to say a prayer. They again stopped the music, even they were not talking with each other. Then I had completed my prayer and again they started everything.

I surprised. They were showing respect to my prayer. I even didn't expect these from unknown people. Hats off to you guys. Real Canadian.

Biography 113: One day at tiffin time

Our school gives free snacks during break time. We had 30 minutes break every day. We called it tiffin time. We had a kitchen at the end of the building. We have a chef to cook snacks for us and lunch for our headmistress. The chef was a great cook. We liked his food very much. I heard people use to hire him on big occasions to cook (Like marriage ceremonies, birthdays etc). He cooked a meal on our final picnic day at the end of school life. It was amazing.

Every day we use to have different kinds of food. Like luchi (pan fry tortilla) and halwa (sweet dish), luchi and bhaji (mixed vegetables), Lucchi and bundia (another kind of sweet), bun bread and banana etc.

One day after a long vacation they give us only bun bread and it was cold. Nothing with it to eat. We really became angry, about how a person can eat like this. Then we saw from grade 10 (The most senior batch of the school) throw all buns on the field. 40/50 crows jump into it to collect it. Our class took the dish and returned it to the kitchen/teacher's room. The khala (Helping hand in the school) get angry and ask, from which class you came. On those days we were in grade 08 or 09. But Falguny (One of our classmates) didn't want to put us in trouble, so she said, "Grade 10!" and left.

Biography 112: Chhobi

Chhobi, she was one year senior in school. We use to go to school together. Many people thought we were sisters. Because she was a tall girl, 5'7" and my height on those days was 5'4" (Now 5'5"). Our skin colour is dark brown and both of us liked to read books (Not academic books).

Most of the time I have seen her collect the book of "Sheba Prokashoni". My choice is always with varieties Sharat Chandra, Sattyajeet Roy, Humayun Ahmed etc. I even like comic books like "Nonte aar Fonte".

I use to go to her home to collect storybooks. At her home, she had a huge book collection. Probably her brother made that. I use to bring 6 to 10 books at a time. Read them as soon as possible, returned them and again brought some more. One day my mom stopped me. She thought I am going to fail in school or something like that. She asked me to return everything and never bring any book again. I didn't. At least from her home. But I had collected from other places in small numbers so that my mom won't notice. That worked.

Her home and my home were very close. She use to come to our home then we together took a rickshaw to go to the school. Sometimes, if I became a little late she had to wait in our living room. My dad use to be very angry with me. He said, "She is senior to you and you are making her waiting." Well, I didn't do it intentionally. When I got ready early I use to go to her home and wait and again we together took a rickshaw. I think in the morning I use to pay and on the way back home she use to pay to the ricksha puller.

The best time we had together is on the rickshaw. We use to talk. About so many things. But not about the school. We had a beautiful different tiny world together. Like which road is high from the ground in Dhaka city. In the Olympic game welcome ceremony who wear the beautiful dress. Most of the time we had different opinions and we use to debate (Never fight) on it.

When I was in grade 5, our classes use to finish 30 minutes earlier than the rest of the school. I had to wait 30 minutes for her. But I was never bored. I use to play in the school and utilized the time. When she left, I became alone in my school journey for one year.

After her school, she uses to buy pickles of "Chalta"/Elephant Apple every single day. I liked to have the variety in food. She always offered me the pickles and once or twice I have taken them from her.

One day we were coming back from school and she was enjoying her pickles as usual. We were on the rickshaw. There were two boys in a different rickshaw were on the road. Both rickshaws were going side by side in the same way. One of the boys started talking asking pickles from Chhobi. "Hey, it's not good eating alone. Share with us, please give me some of it, why are you so rude..."

I didn't like their disturbances, but didn't say anything or react. I looked at Chhobi. She had no reaction in her face, just enjoying the pickles as she always does.  I was surprised, I keep looking at her, is she listening or not! Her poker face has no sign of reaction. The boys kept continuing their verbal attacks.

Chhobi finished her pickles, which were on a white paper. Some pickles juices were on the paper left. Suddenly she spread her hand outside and said," Nen, khaan"(Grab and eat). Both rickshaws were moving forward. Our one was a little forward than theirs at that moment. The paper with juices fly away and drop on the boys (Who were talking) white shirt. The juice colour was on his shirt. Everything happened in a moment.

The boy was surprised and screamed, What! Does anyone do like that! Our rickshaw puller understood the situation. He pulled the rickshaw as fast a possible and we were somehow flown to our home. I laughed out high. She kept her face the same. She said to me, "Why are you laughing so much. He wanted some and I gave him."

Oh, she was such a funny girl. I went to her home when her father died. It was a very sad moment. We didn't talk much. The last time I met her was in our area. We were walking on the road. In those days, I think she got married and started living in Narayanganj. She has already become a doctor. She said she is going to get training on Altra sound.

Now we don't have any contact. I wish I could find her on Facebook. At list a tiny relation I want to keep with her. I don't like to lose good people in my life.

What to do on the road in a snowstorm

In a snowstorm, people get most trouble is on the road. The car gets stuck. This is a very common situation in Saskatchewan. So, people from Saskatchewan know very well how to handle it. I have lived there for almost 6 years. So, dear Ontario here is my suggestion for you.

1. Have control over your speed. Drive your car at a speed that is controllable. You will understand about it, the way your car gets a slide on the road.

2. If your car gets stuck, don't just sit inside the car and wait for help. You may run out of gas before help comes to you. Get out of the car, take whatever you have (Brush, stick, shovel) and clean snows in front of the tires as well as down the middle of your car. Most probably your car gets stuck its belly in the ice.

3. Help others whose cars get stuck in the snow. Sometimes a little push helps them to get out of the hard ice.

4. If you see from home, some car gets stuck on the road, come out and help.

The most effective solution is to help each other.

Biography 111: Masuma Khatun

I was in Majhil Govt Girls High School from grade 5 to 10. In this period my best friend was Masuma Khatun. She used to live in Kamalapur. In her childhood, she had polio, so her one arm was not working properly. She was a very nice person, soft-spoken and honest. We always use to sit together.

As our house were far away, according to kids. We never visit each other's house. Maybe that's why now I have no communication with her. The last time I have seen her was after getting admission to Dhaka University. She said she is on the waiting list. As her marks are good, probably she will be called.

We get separated from the college (Grade 11). When I went to the Viqarunnisa noon college and She got admitted to the Matijhil Ideal College.

When I first sat beside Masuma in grade 5, she was crying. She said the person who used to sit beside her didn't like her. That girl put a mark on the bench and told her never to cross that line. She felt like she is not likable to anyone. Well, Allah knows, no one knows this feeling better than me. From the very childhood I use to see, no one likes me. And now I have accepted that situation everywhere.

I said to her, never feel hesitate to sit anywhere on this bench. It was a two-person seated bench with a desk. I use to share everything with her. Well, I didn't have much. She did that too with me. When we were in grade 10, one day she brought some notes on Islamiat subjects to me. She said her older sister has collected these. If you read it you will get a letter mark (80%), guaranteed. I didn't believe her because I knew, I don't read. But I did go through some of it and got a letter mark in the SSC exam. So, she was right.

Her father was a doctor. Her mother was from the original Dhaka (Dhakaiya). She liked me because I was kind of from Dhaka too (Bikrompur).

I remember one day she told me, she doesn't like to study, but when her maid (Having a maid is a very usual thing in Bangladesh) put everything in the proper place, she felt like taking a book and studying. Well, I didn't have that luxury. I use to do everything by myself. And I never liked to study school books.

Later I tried to find her a lot. I have searched on the net, Facebook. But she became disappear from everywhere. I wish I know where she is, how she is.

Apartment heating system

If you are living in Canada, and in winter when your apartment's heating system isn't working properly, only you will understand how it feels. Now we are living like in a studio apartment. We left and close both bedrooms as it is too cold to survive. Moved to the living area with two queen-sized mattresses. Because room temperature is better in the living area. Though at night I felt really cold. One comforter seemed not enough. But I felt too lazy to bring another quilt. I should have, now feeling fever. From next night I will put on a quilt and a comforter before sleep.

My son said, he is feeling cold too, so he went inside his comforter and worked on his homework. I told him not to fall asleep. I hope soon we will be able to get rid of this situation. May Allah help us.

Biography 110: My last dance performance on stage

The stage between two schools, Matijhil govt girls high school and Matijhil govt boys high school

When I was in grade 5 in a new school, my classmates knew that I am learning dancing. I think I had danced and sung songs in the class. I heard they use to say, I way I walk, move or sit is very nice because I am a dancer. I don't think so. It's something that I am.

In our school we had a teacher, we used to call her "Dolly Apa". She liked to do extra curriculum activities with the students and students liked her very much. She was the most popular teacher in our school during her time. When she took her class she use to draw lots of pictures on the board. Students like that too.

This teacher wanted to do a cultural program. I went there to participate as a dancer. She thought I am too little to perform alone so she put a senior student to teach me and give another girl to perform with me. I have no problem.

The senior student understood that I can dance better, so in the performance, she put me at the front. After a couple of days of rehearsal, we performed in front of the teacher to get approval. But I felt she was not concentrating on our performance and I don't know what happen finally the total program was cancelled and the teacher went to the boy's school. We had a boys' school right beside our school.

Then time passed, I grow a little bit. My mom decided, now I better stop dancing because I didn't want to take it as a profession. She put me in singing classes. But I use to dance at home whenever I am in a mood.

When I reached grade 8, our class got the opportunity to provide a farewell program to the senior students of grade 10, who are going to leave the school and join college (That's Bangladeshi study style). Our class teacher was responsible to arrange the program. I went to her and said, I will dance. She had a little doubt about me and she already selected another senior girl. But she said, ok show me something.

I danced in front of a bunch of girls and no one moved during my performance. She said, I already took another girl, but I like your style. Then she looked at another girl and said, will you step back and let her dance. The other girl said, yes mom, let her dance.

Then the teacher took the music from the other girl on which the girl was going to perform and gave it to me. And said dance with this music. The teacher also asked me what are you going to wear? I replied, Saari. She said you are too little to wear a Saari. Wear something else, like a beautiful frock. I didn't like the idea. The other girl said, she has a beautiful dress like an angel, she can lend me the dress. I said, NO.

At home, my mom told me, go to your room, shut down the door and choreography your own way with this music. I did.

On the program day, I went by wearing a Saary. My teacher looked at me. We used to call her Ferdousi Apa. She told me, your body isn't ready to wear a salary. You are not grown up yet.

Before the program started, the teacher asked me to go to the mike and announce that the program is going to start. I never talk in front of a mike before, I got scared. But she gave me suggestions about what can I say. I asked her to write it down to me, but she didn't have anything in her hand to writing. So, she said, just go and announce.

I stood up in front of the mike, girls were chatting with each other. The moment I started talking everybody stopped and looked at me. I understood that day, maybe I have a very good voice.

Later my performance time came. I performed with my whole heart, I went into my performance. The whole school became silent and watched my performance.

After the performance, many people said many good words to me. One was, "I have never seen such an amazing performance before, you just touched everyone's soul"

You know what, that was my last stage performance. And I heard our teacher is no more.

Biography 109: Hair

From my childhood, I have always heard that my hair is black, silky, gorgeous.

This is what a Bangladeshi girl wished to have. Then the beauty parlour era came. Then girls started trying different colours in their hair.

I never tried any colour on my hair. I like my hair colour. Even now when it is started becoming white/gray. Sometimes I put henna on my hair (The last time I did, about a year ago). This is for the health of the hair and also makes my hair colour more elegant.

When I was in Saudi Arabia, people use to touch my hair whenever they get the chance. They use to tell my mom, "All Bangladeshi girls have this type of nice hair?". Because they have seen my mom and her friend. Both have nice black long hair.

When I was in school one day one of my classmates started rating who has the most black hair. She started her counting from 1. Some other girls also join her. I kept listening. I thought maybe my number will come from 2 to 4. But they went to rank 7 but didn't say my name. I couldn't hold myself anymore. I said, "Maybe my hair is burning in the sun too much. That's why I'm not getting good colour." She looked at me with a big surprise. "You have the best and most black colour. That's why we are not even considering counting your one."

Oh, that was a relief.

We know a very little

An intelligent person understands many things. That makes them feel so confident that they think they understand everything. Maybe one in a million they will misunderstand. They will never understand that. If you try to make them understand they will get annoyed.

In the end, if somehow they get it that they were wrong, that won't make them feel sorry. They will believe they were right, somehow the situation went wrong.

The truth is, the more you learn, the more you understand, how little actually we know...

Biography 108: Comments about my face

In my school, I heard the first bad comment about my face, on my face. One of my classmates told me, your face is like "Bosteer meye" (which means, A girl who came from a slam area). It hurts. But in my mind, I agree with her.

I don't like to iron my dresses, so you can imagine how I looked like in my school dress. I didn't know how to comb or set my hair. I didn't put anything on my face, like cream, powder etc. Make-up wasn't allowed in school. My skin colour is dark. I don't have a beautiful face, yes I knew it, that she was right. Though it hurt me.

Then I looked at her. Well, I felt she looked the same, though she had fair skin colour. But that made me feel a little better.

She used to live in Khilgaon. Her dad later made their own house. It was a little far away from our school. She uses to walk always. Bangladesh is a hot and humid country. Because of walking in the sun, her head sculps were covered with "Foska" / blister.

The last news I had about her is she became a professor at Jagannath University. Wish her all the best. I didn't get angry on that day, nor today.

In school, I didn't hear directly like this any more times. But later... I heard a lot. I never claimed as a beautiful woman, but people felt good and don't want to let me forget by reminding me how ugly I am.

Canadian lifestyle

I always choose simple life. I mean relaxed life. Actually, that's the only way I can live. I have done 3 jobs at a time to earn money. Within 3 months I had to go to the hospital.

In Canada, people sometimes do 5 jobs at a time. The cost is very high and people want to live, not just survive. All costs are too high without any reason or just to make the rich people richer.

As I want to live a simple relaxed life. I am doing only one job (Low pay) and living hand to mouth. I don't know how long I can survive this way. Maybe my earning will someday push me to any small town.

I don't like to live this way. When I was in Bangladesh I never looked at the price. I just look for those things what is necessary, then choose the best quality one and buy. Now I don't think about the quality. I looked at the price and even to save one cent, I choose low-quality products.

This is a very common life in Canada. If you don't do any high collar job, you have to work like a machine. Or live a life like mine.

Biography 107: Hairstyle

In Bangladesh, there is a rule for girls that they have to set their hair before they go to school. I had to set my hair all by myself. I didn't know how to do it properly. But I tried my best. Whenever I have seen any new way to set hair I tried on myself. On those days we didn't have internet that I can't search and find how to do this or that. I just give trial and error on my hair.

The result was very poor. Most of the time my hair looked bad. Sometimes girls laughed at me, but what can I do. I just accepted the way it was.

Still, I am not good at setting up hair. Sometimes I try to set my son's hair. He doesn't like when I try anything on him.

Now a day my hair is very short and I like it that way. No hassle to fix it.
