I liked it's melody

Duncan Laurence - Arcade (Loving You Is A Losing Game) feat. FLETCHER

Lyrics

… A broken heart is all that's left

I'm still fixing all the cracks

Lost a couple of pieces when

I carried it, carried it, carried it home

… I'm afraid of all I am

My mind feels like a foreign land

Silence ringing inside my head

Please carry me, carry me, carry me home

… I've spent all of the love I saved

We were always a losing game

Small town boy in a big arcade

I got addicted to a losing game

… Oh

Oh

All I know, all I know

Loving you is a losing game

… Do you love me, love me not?

Giving pieces from my heart

Tomorrow's coming and has gone

Still I carried, I carried, I carried on

… Oh

Oh

All I know, all I know

Loving you is a losing game

… Oh

Oh

All I know, all I know

Loving you is a losing game

… I don't need your games, game over

… Get me off this rollercoaster

… Oh

Oh

All I know, all I know

Loving you is a losing game

… Oh

Oh

All I know, all I know

Loving you is a losing game

Choose your battle wisely

"Choose your battle wisely. If you fight them all, you will be too tired to win the ones that matter."
It is important to be strategic in choosing which battles to fight. If we try to tackle every issue that comes our way, we may become too exhausted to effectively address the ones that truly matter.

It is true that many situations may arise that we do not agree with or cannot ignore. However, it is important to carefully consider where we want to direct our energy. Sometimes, it may be best to simply let certain things go.

In order to make the most of our time and energy, we must focus on what is truly important to us. This will help us determine which battles are worth fighting and which ones we can let go of.

While it may be tempting to avoid confrontation altogether, this approach can sometimes lead to unnecessary suffering. It is important to strike a balance between standing up for ourselves and choosing our battles wisely

I wish I don't have to fight at all. That's why I try to avoid all. Maybe that's why I finally suffered a lot because I let them win without any trouble.

Biography 184: My first tour to Cox's Bazar (The road)

When I was in grade 8 or 9, my youngest uncle (Maternal) used to work in Bandorban Rubber Garden as a manager. The owner of the rubber garden was Sohel Rana (Masud Parvej), a prominent actor in Bangladesh. My uncle had a fruit garden too of his own. His family used to live in Cox's Bazar because of his kids' education, and he had a shop in a mall.

My uncle knew he lived near a big travel spot. So, he always tries to take any of his nieces or nephews with him whenever he comes to Dhaka or Faridpur and shows them the beach of the Bay of Bangle.

One day my turn came. Because my annual school exam was finished. My uncle just asked once. And I happily agree to go with him. My other cousin-brother Ranku Bhai (May Allah keep him in peace) visited our house then, and he joined us.

In those days, there was no direct bus service from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar. My uncle took us to the bus terminal at Arambag (For Cox's Bazar and Chittagong buses).

The bus took us directly to Chittagong, and then we changed to another bus to Cox's Bazaar. We started very early in the morning. When we reached the bus stoppage by rickshaw, a man joined us. Ranku bro said it is his friend and will go with us too. The individuals were totally ready for the journey. Clearly, they knew about it before, but not me or my uncle.

My uncle agreed to take him too to his house. In those days, there were no mobile or cell phone systems. People really used land phones on the road. So, my aunt (My uncle's wife) had no clue that 3 extra people would go to their house to live for a couple of days.

Before reaching Chittagong, we stopped at a roadside restaurant to take our lunch. These restaurants are built for highway travellers. Their food was good. Washroom was clean. Then we start our journey again.

Here I have to mention something. I am not a bus person. In my childhood, I even couldn't ride in a car. When it started moving, I used to begin vomiting. After growing up, I have more control over this problem. Now a day, I just stay relaxed and head up all the way. If I even try to read something or check my cell phone, I feel like throwing out everything.

I was in school and didn't have control like this time. It was a huge bus and a long journey. I felt terrible several times but somehow held it till Chittagong.

In Chittagong, we get down from the bus. It was afternoon. We took some rest and got on the next bus. By this time, my brother Ranku had bought some Champa Banana. He ate and gave us too. I tried one. It was good, probably local fruit.

Then the bus started moving. And I couldn't hold anymore. I throw out everything. Couldn't take my mouth to the window, though I sat beside the window, my uncle sat beside me. My brothers sat behind us. My uncle cleaned me up with a gamchha (Cotton towel). In those days, people didn't use to carry tissues. He told me to keep the window open always and keep my mouth near the window so that I won't get dirty again.

But his anger went to the Champa Banana, indirectly to my brother. They started fighting. My uncle asked why he gave a banana to me. I didn't have this problem after lunch or snacks but after taking the banana. My brother said it's not the banana; it's the poor bus. Smelling like gasoline. I tried to stop my uncle, and my brother's friend tried to stop my brother. Both of us failed. No matter how many times I said, it's my problem. No one listened.

I threw out two more times, but I became an expert by that time. I used the window to clear my stomach, and no one got dirty.

We got down before we reached the main Cox's Bazar beach area. There was a small market by the highway, and my uncle lived nearby village.

When we reached my uncle's home in the evening. By that time, fighting was stopped, not over. Both of them (Uncle and brother) stayed silent for the rest of the tour.

Interesting changes around me

Before I entered in teenage, I found, males from all age groups, races, professions, places (Office, street, mall, etc.), social statuses, relations (Unknown, professor, colleague, etc.), physical features, financial status showed interest in me for different reasons. I am not saying all males did; I am saying males who showed interest somehow, were from different statuses.

Then at some age, I started feeling pain in my body. I became slower and started taking rest in between work. I started gaining weight. When I became plus size, I found something different happening around me. Mostly Black people are showing interest. Probably Black people like bigger bums and breasts.

I continue gaining extra weight. Now a day, big and overweight people are showing more interest than any other. Maybe they found someone similar to them.

Life is interesting. Even just watching my situation.

Maybe someday only aged people will show interest in me. ;)

Unstoppable

Each day is unique and unpredictable. There are times when unexpected events occur and you feel shattered into countless pieces. In those moments, I listen to a particular song that uplifts me.

I heard it from somewhere when my tears were unstoppable. But then it cheered me up and made me strong enough to smile at my situation. Thank you Sia.

RT Train in Toronto

Scarborough Station

The main attraction of this station is the RT train. This train connects people from McCown to Kennedy Station in Toronto. It has 5 stoppages. It's a big area, if you try to ride on the bus, you will face many stoppages and traffic problems. In rush time, trains can contain more people than buses. If we stop this train service, all pressure will be on the bus, which will be complete, and people will have to wait for the next bus. This situation is unsuitable for working people and students who must maintain time on the road.

If the train becomes outdated, it should be repaired and modernized. It could also be transformed into a tourist attraction, providing a scenic view of the city. People who reside near the stations or prefer not to take the subway can use the train.

Biography 183: Our friend Emran

Emran sitting with a guitar in the Chittagong railway station waiting room.

Emran was my friend from the Geography & Environment Department at the University of Dhaka. He was from Sherpur, Bangladesh. We had a common friend. That's why we have some tours together in groups, besides our regular field trips. Like a trip to "Sonar Gaon."

We miss trips too. One day Emran, with his friend supposed to meet us in front of Shishu Park. I had given the time 5.30pm. I waited there till 5.31pm, then left. I was like, if anyone came 1 minute late, that person would miss the meeting. On that day, Emran became very upset. He said, couldn't you wait 10 more minutes. I replied, why didn't you come 10 minutes early? Emran never fought with me for more than 2 seconds, so he stopped arguing.

One day in the class, I found him quite angry with a friend; Emran raised his voice and said, "Are bata, toke bollam na bata, oita bata, dhorbi bata, dekhosh na bata....." I laughed out loud. Why so many Bata in the sentence?

When all were planning our field trips in the department, I suggested going to India. I knew my family would not take me abroad to travel, and I couldn't go alone. I also heard our senior batches visited India, so I insisted. But no one was listening to me. Emran became irritated and said, "If you go with me, I will take you to travel to India." His friends stopped him and said, don't make this kind of comment. It was OK for me. By that time, I knew him very well. I knew, without meaning anything, he just made jokes, so I didn't care what he said. And no one made any field trip to India during our course,

Later I visited India twice in two different places, at my own cost.

On our Mymensingh trip, Emran helped our friends who became sick by calling doctors and taking care of them.

When Saba faced an incident in the department, Emran was the first person who protested.

On the Cox's Bazar trip, I came last to the hotel from the station, and all people had already taken their rooms. Emran took us to our room. It was a broken and dark room. I told him, I am not going to stay here. He said, can't you adjust a bit. Sumi was ready to adjust, but I told him clearly, No. I will stay in the corridor until you give me a good room. He left, took me upstairs within 5 minutes, and gave us a clean, renovated big room.

On the way to Dhaka, we halt some hours at the Chottogram train station. Emran requested me to stay with everyone's luggage, and the boys will go out to see the city. I didn't plan to go out, but I immediately said, no way, I will go out too. And then I went out with a group and visited some places.

During our University life, we worked many times in a group. The first year, we were in the same survey group. At the end of the Masters class, we conducted a survey again in Bagerhat.

After leaving the University, we didn't have much contact. But he managed to come to my marriage ceremony. When a significant incident happened in the ceremony, he came to me and told me, no worries, the groom's friend didn't like the food, that's why they left it, but now again sit down with the new round of food. One of the groom's friends was my Hall friend. So, no worries, I will handle it, and everything will be fine. He understood as a bride, I was worried about the situation and couldn't go outside and fix the problem. So he came to comfort me.

Then I met with him at Chaity's marriage ceremony. He came with his wife, and his wife was 6 months pregnant.

When I was getting ready to migrate to Canada, I needed money. So, I wanted to sell my apartment. Emran tried to find a client. He had shown the flat to some people too but didn't succeed. I couldn't wait; I needed the money in a short time. So, I sold it to an employee of the builder company.

Then our communication was only online. Withing saying anything, I could see what my friends were doing on the FB page. When I wrote about him, he checked my blogs and corrected me where needed.

He was our go-to person. Whoever faced trouble always contacted him, and he tried his best to solve it. Like, all iftar parties get together, arranging money for those in trouble. He knew how to cheer up a person or a group and enjoy every moment.

Like when I said I don't have money to come to Bangladesh. He said, don't worry, just decide, and we will arrange money for you. I knew he didn't mean it, but he always encouraged everyone.

Now it will be challenging to stay together with all because Emran was one of the big reasons that everyone stayed together. I wish and pray for him, Jannat.

Biography 182: Professor Jamal Khan

Professor Jamal was from the Geography & Environment Department, University of Dhaka. We met him at our final year MSc class. He accompanied us to Bagerhat for our last year's field trip.

Here I need to say something about myself. I am a sincere, honest person in every work and emotion. In both study and work, I did all my work sincerely always. But no one noticed or didn't care. Some people took advantage of that.

Jamal sir was the first person who noticed how efficiently we did our work on the field trip. He also mentioned it to other groups, and we got good marks on our work. Emran was in our group. He praised his work too. Emran is always a very good, helpful person. Even now, if anyone in our class faces trouble, Emran is the first to stand by them.

Jamal sir was young and unmarried. One day he was dining at a table with a group of girls. He was giving advice about our study. He said we should work hard and don't waste any time. Then after work, it will be sweeter when we take a break. Otherwise, we may feel bored. I totally agree with him.

One of our friends, Jolly, started asking funny questions. You know the questions we ask a young bachelor person. Our professor started blushing.

The last time when I contacted him, he was in the UK. I was thinking of migrating, so I asked questions about it. He referred Canada to migrate and said UK's labour market was in poor condition. He also said he wasn't feeling good. I didn't ask him what happened, as it was too personal. Now I think I should have asked him. He would have avoided my question and didn't answer if it was too personal.

Now he is no more. He left at such a young age. May Allah keep him in peace.

Housing with a mall

Have you noticed the vast area and parking lot at the Walmart Shopping Center in North America? I think we should make better use of that space.

Instead of reducing any part of it, we could construct an apartment building on top of it. Walmart could take charge of the project, and their employees and customers could live there. Since everyone would buy their needs from Walmart, the company would have fixed customers, including others from the city and could earn rent as well. Employees would prefer to stay close to work, saving time, money and energy on travel.

The basement could be reserved for apartment renters' parking spots, so they wouldn't occupy other shoppers' parking lots.

Not just Walmart, other shopping malls like Canadian Super Store, Costco, Dollarama, and Metro could also consider constructing such apartments on top of their 3/4 stories shopping centers. This solution wouldn't require any extra space to address the housing problem.

These apartments won't cause extra traffic on the roads for shopping and working (For the employees).

Just because you are angry

You might be thinking I am in front of any organization. Actually, it's a hospital. I was waiting outside for my ride after they discharged me.

"Just because you are angry doesn't mean you have the right to be cruel."

When interacting with others, it's important to remember that we all have unique experiences and perspectives. Despite our best efforts to be objective, we may still have biases that influence our reactions. Therefore, it's crucial to avoid being cruel or negative towards others, even when we feel angry.

We never truly know everything about someone or their situation, and our words or actions may have a lasting impact on them. As you don't know about everything, you don't know whether you are right or wrong.

In some cases, we understand people or anything, then, we start making false assumptions that we know about everything about everyone and start giving reactions to it.

That's why no matter what we feel, or how angry we are, never show negativity in your word, action or impression. Don't make yourself regret it later. Because you already ruin someone's heart, moment, day or life. You can't erase that from that person's life.

Let's strive to be kind and understanding, and avoid causing harm that we may later regret.

Biography 181: Professor of Regional Geography

Our regional geography professor was an aged and wise man. He never spent unnecessary money on his dresses. He came from a wealthy family but always lived a general life. He sent his daughter abroad to get a degree. One day she called and asked help from her dad for an assignment. Our professor gave some suggestions, and she got very good marks. Her teacher asked where she got that information, and she informed the teacher about her dad.

Our department, Geography & Environment, had to increase his working days even after his retirement age because it was difficult to find someone wise like him to take his position.

One day he told us that he was getting an allergy reaction from the chalk. On those days, we had blackboard and chalk to write in the class. We suggested not to use it, but he smiled, said it was okay, and kept writing as needed in the lecture.

He had vast knowledge of many different issues. And he wasn't a religious person. Sometimes he mentioned some example or information which may go against any religion. Obviously, not all students like that. If anyone tries to argue, he can't keep his temper long. So, considering his age, we always suggested to other students not to fight with him. We didn't like to see him suffering.

I am a religious person. I like intelligent and wise men. I respect them. I respect my professor very much. But one day he said something which hurt me too much. So, I decided to skip his classes.

Before his class started, I went out and stayed on the balcony, and when he left the class, I returned to the class to attend the next class.

I thought he won't notice or bother my absence. I was wrong.

Our professor was very friendly and always respected everyone, including all students. In Bangladesh, whenever we meet with any professor, we say, "Assalamu Alaikum (May peace rain upon you.)" And the professor either replies or nods just to let you know he heard and thank you. As usual, I said Salam to our professor when I met with him in the department. For the first time, he didn't reply and clearly ignored me. It happened more than once. I understood very clearly. To ignore a problem, I created a new one.

I understood I have to come to bend myself as I am a student. So, I again joined the class, I had made up my mind, and no matter it troubles me, I will just sit and complete all classes. The professor noticed me in the class and gave me a big smile of love. After that class, he didn't say anything in class that could hurt me, and outside the class, sometimes he gave me a salam.

The person who always fought for his word, restricted with his tongue only for a student, which he didn't want to lose. Our professor isn't on this earth anymore. But from the bottom of my heart, I give you Salam. I respect you, as always, no matter how different our thinking process is.

Write a song

 A beautiful old Bangla song.

[Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIsLsEUDuT8]

Translation:

Please write a song for me
Even though I was worthless to you.

May that song make me stager
May that make me eager
May I feel blessed in the core

I was your love conquest's first dream character
I wrote in your heart many words in rhyming letters

That day I still remember
Let me found in ways whichever
my lifeboat found on its way trash wares.

Greedy human

After hatching eggs commercially, companies first separated both male and female chickens. Then discard the male one. Some have big fires, and they just throw them in it. Because male chickens can't lay eggs, their meat isn't tasty.

After knowing this, I felt terrible. Yeah, these are humans. Industrial thinking. Do everything for your own benefit only. Don't care about any living being, including humans.

I heard the same happens with calves too. They came to the world to produce milk for humans. Then they are killed by a hammer they are not needed for that industry.

Beautiful music and melody

I really enjoy the music and melody of this song. In fact, I find the singer's performances to be even better than those of some professional actors. The English translation has been added to the video.

Canada, before Summer.

Before summer.

During my time in Bangladesh, I experienced the unique occurrence of six seasons in a year. However, living in the city limited my ability to observe significant changes in nature with each season.

Upon relocating to Canada, I quickly noticed the noticeable and dramatic differences in nature that come with each season. The winter season blankets everything in white, from trees to fields, houses, and roads.

As the season transitions into spring, the snow begins to melt, leaving behind a grey landscape as depicted in the accompanying image. It seems as though this has always been the case.

Biography 180: New Professor

When we were in our first year at the University of Dhaka, we had practical classes scheduled at the end of the day. But at the beginning of our course, our practical class didn't start. We heard the professor who was appointed didn't return from abroad. He was studying somewhere out of the country. After missing a few classes, one day, one told us he arrived in the department. We were happy, OK, now our class will resume.

One of the girls told us, let's meet with him. Let's see what he looks like. Allah knows why I was with them. It really doesn't matter to me, what a person looks like. We walked towards the library room by the corridor, and then we had to take a turn, where a bunch of professors were standing in the corridor and chatting with our new professor.

I felt professors won't like how students went there to see someone. So, I just bent and looked (like a pick-a-boo) at the professors; my body was behind the pillar. I am sure I didn't make any noise. But at the same time, the new professor turned and looked at us. I felt we got caught in something, so I immediately hid behind the pillar.

Then our class started. In the beginning, I found this professor very grumpy. Always in a bad mood, scolding students. I felt maybe it was better that he was staying abroad.

But he surprises us; within a month, he has changed totally. He used to smile always and make fun with the students. I started thinking, a person who can smile so nicely, why was he hiding his nature in that way?

I remember he went to visit Cox's Bazar with our senior class. After returning from the tour, he shared some very funny moments. We all laughed loud with him. I wanted to hear more about the tour stories, but some of our classmates from the back bench started making too much noise that he had to stop and change the topic.

I want to share about another day. We were taking measurements of our front open area and portico. We were divided into a couple of groups. I wanted to make sure that we were doing everything right, so before starting work (drawing), I wanted to discuss with our professor about our work plan and whether they are ok or not. But he went to another group. One of our group members, Sharmin, requested him to check work, but then he went to another group. Sharmin became tired; she said each time I asked him to see our group work, he went to another group. So, we decided let's try everything by ourselves. Then he came; I was so angry that I didn't feel like talking to him. But he helped us, gave suggestions and the rest of the day, he worked with our group. We were the last group that he checked in.

At the end of our first year, he went abroad again to study. This time we talked with him. He said he had got a scholarship and would return after 4 years. We calculated, then we will be studying in the MSc class.

Our professor kept his word, and he returned. Then get married. Now he is living in Thailand with his family and working as a professor at a University.

He introduced his wife to us. She is charming, and she worked in a Bank in those days. I liked her smile mostly. She was very lovely and hamble with us.

When I decided to migrate, I also contacted our professor Mokbul Morshed Ahmed. Our professor gave us some links to where their university allows studying on their campus. But those link wasn't working from my end.

Later I moved to Canada. Our professors from the University of Dhaka are always very helpful and friendly with us. We are lucky to have professors like that.

Like a tree

After years of observation I found my self like a tree. I give people as much as I can, even when they might not ask for it.

I also want many things in my life, which I never ask. If any one noticed my situation and helps me, then only I enjoyed that. Otherwise I might have expend my life without having that help or thing.

Maybe you just need to change your approach

"Maybe, you are stuck because you are pushing a door that says pull."

Throughout life, we often find ourselves facing obstacles that seem insurmountable. We may feel hopeless and believe there's no way to overcome these challenges. However, it's important to remember that there could be numerous reasons why the door remains closed. Perhaps we're simply approaching it the wrong way.

For instance, when it comes to opening a door, pushing or pulling it in the wrong direction will prevent it from opening. This doesn't necessarily mean the door is locked; it just means we need to adjust our approach. By changing our approach, we can find the right solution and overcome the problem. This is a valuable life lesson to keep in mind.

Biography 179: Professor Ziaus Shams

Today, I would like to share my experiences with Professor Ziaus Shams from the Geography & Environment department at the University of Dhaka. I first met him during my interview when I expressed my interest in joining the Geography Department. He seemed proud and encouraged me, although I had no idea who he was at the time since I was surrounded by department heads.

During another admission session at the department building, we had to go inside a room one by one to complete some admission work. Some students became impatient and pushed each other, causing the door handle to break. Professor Ziaus Shams came out and shouted to stop the behaviour, which scared us.

In class, Professor Shams voiced his dissatisfaction with the old and broken facilities at the university and made efforts to upgrade them. He even changed the main gate and established an air-conditioned lab for GIS and Climate Geography.

During one class, three of us (girls) wore red sarees and always tried to sit in the front row so the professor would notice our dresses. To our surprise, the next day he wore a red t-shirt.

In conclusion, every person has something good in them, and we should focus on their positive qualities rather than their shortcomings, especially when they are no longer with us.

Adjust to your pain

I don't think males face the problem the same way as females.

Unfortunately, if you are over 40 and seek medical attention for pain, the initial response from your doctor may be dismissive. Despite the severity or location of your pain, you may be advised to simply adjust to it, exercise, rest, and sleep.

No wonder why women have heart attacks more than men. Because they just have been told from childhood to adjust to it. Keep smiling with your pain because no one cares. Really, no one, not even you, for your own pain.

Not everyone has good taste.

"You don't need to be liked by everyone. Not everyone has good taste."

It's not necessary to strive for everyone's approval. People have their own unique preferences and opinions, and these can't be universally catered to. Trying to please everyone would mean sacrificing your own authenticity and self-respect.

It's important to embrace your individuality, even if not everyone appreciates it. Not everyone has the ability to recognize or value the best qualities you possess. It's better to stay true to yourself, and those who truly appreciate you will naturally gravitate towards you.

Remember, people are different, and that's okay. Don't worry about pleasing everyone; just focus on being true to yourself. Let others live their lives, and you live yours.

Biography 178: Riding on the bus in Halua Ghat

We had a unique bus experience from Halua Ghat to Maymensingh. The road didn't have the concert cover; it was just on the soil. Bangladesh is a tropical country, so we had enough rain all year. You can imagine if a big bus ran on soil on a rainy day what could have happened with that road. It was going up and down like a small hill. Though, that didn't reduce the speed of the bus.

We were sitting inside the bus, surrounded by dust (The bus running on the soil), with no way to see anything through the window. The bus was jumping up and falling down for a few km. We jumped up with the bus, then the bus went down, so we fell on the seat. It's not an amusement park, the seat was hard, and there were no seat belts. When we fell on the seat, a noise came out from our mouths like Ah, for the pain and fear.

I sat in the middle of the bus and felt what I had described. Now you can imagine what could have happened who were at the end of the bus. Some of the boys in our class were there. Among them, I could hear Mamun's (Polash), Tajul, and Deepu's voices. One of the girls from the front row said, do you want to exchange seats with us? They felt bad for those boys. Mamun replied, No, it's OK. Then he said to the other boys if girls be seated here, they will become lentil soup (he said this in Bangla, Dail). Other boys laughed out in laughter.

It didn't sound good, but it was confirmed at that moment.
