সুন্দর আর কালো (Beauty and Black)

হয়তো আমার গায়ের রং গাড় খয়েরী (আমার বোন আর ভাগ্নে বলে) বা কালো বলেই কথাটা নিয়ে একটু খটকা হয়েছিল।

সাধারনত: আমার সামনে কেউ কালো গায়ের রং নিয়ে কিছু বলে না। কারনটা খুব স্বাভাবিক। এ জাতীয় কথা বার্তা আমার ভালো লাগবে না। আমার মতে, কে কি রং পছন্দ করবে এটা যার যার নিজস্ব বিষয়। ফর্সা ভালো লাগলে ভালো, কালো রং যার ভালো লাগে তার জন্য সেটাই সুন্দর। এখানে কাউকে হেয় করার দরকার নেই। সত্যি কথা হলো, কারো পছন্দের উপর অন্য কারো হাত নেই।

আমার গায়ের রং যে গাড় এটা সব সময় মনে থাকত না। কারন আমার আশে পাশের লোকজন তাদের আচরন দিয়ে মনে করিয়ে দিত না। 

ইদানিং কথাটা কারো কারো কাছে একটু অন্য ভাবে শুনছি। কথায় কথায় বলে অমুক সুন্দর আর অমুক কালো। তারমানে যে সুন্দর সে ফর্সা। আর যে কালো সে অসুন্দর। প্রথমে শুনতে অন্যরকম লেগেছিল। হয় কালো - সাদা হবে , না হয় সুন্দর - অসুন্দর হবে। তারপর মনে হলো অধিকাংশ মানুষই হয়তো ফর্সা রংকে সুন্দর আর কালো কে অসুন্দর মনে করে। তাই হয়তো এভাবে বলার প্রচলন হয়েছে। যে যেভাবে দেখে। এতে তার দৃষ্টিভংগী কেমন এটাতো জানা যায়...

কানাডায় আসার পর এক সাদা মহিলা কথায় কথায় বলছিলেন, আমরা গায়ের রং রোদে পুড়িয়ে গাড় করতে পছন্দ করি। আমি বললাম, আমার এরকম করার দরকার নেই। মহিলা হেসে উত্তর দিলেন, ঠিক, আমরা চামড়া পুড়িয়ে তোমার  রং বানানোর চেষ্টা করি, আর তোমার এমনিতেই সেটা আছে। শুনে খুবই ভালো লেগেছে। এই প্রথম কেউ আমার গায়ের রং পছন্দ করলো।

Maybe because my skin color is deep brown (As my sister and nephew said) or black, this kind of word hurt me. Let me tell you in details.

Generally, people don't say about my color, in front of me. Very natural, this kind of talking won't make me feel better. I believe it's totally personal choice who will love which color. If people likes white skin, it's their choice. If anyone likes black skin it's totally their choice. Nobody needs to under-estimate other's choice. The truth is you can't make people like what you want.

Sometimes I even forget what's my skin color is, because people around me didn't let me think about it. Now a day, I heard it differently...

Some people says, this person is beautiful and that one is black. What's this mean? Beautiful means white? And black is not beautiful? They should either say this is white and that is black or this person is beautiful and that person isn't.

Then I thought, maybe most of the people think black isn't beautiful so when they say this person is beautiful that means this person is white and that person is black, so they mean that person isn't beautiful. What can I say, at least from this way, we can understand what kind of thought these people has?

After start living in Canada, one day a Canadian white woman told me, they like to spend time in the sun to make their skin dark. I replied I don't need that. She smiled and said, yes, you have the perfect color by born, which we try to have in the sun.

I really liked this comment, for the first time someone liked my skin color!
