Biography 261: A poem on the wall

When I was a kid, I saw a poem framed and hung on the wall. It was kind of a sad poem. I don't remember all the lines. It was in Bangla. The last line was some thing like that "Jabar kale dekha hobe, ekhon chole jai. (See you before I die, for now, goodbye)."

The words were sewn on a white cloth in different colours, along with some flowers and leaves. The sign was also sewn with thread, "Sufia," at the end. That is my mom.

I asked my mom, "Why did you sew this, Mom?" She became irritated. (It's natural; whenever I ask anything, she gets annoyed. Actually, everybody gets irritated with my questions.) She said, "It's your dad's choice. He asked her to sew these words. She doesn't like that poem."

Later, it became dirty, so she took it out. I don't know where it is now.

Sewing

Shafeen has drawn this picture

I believe that, if you take training or learn anything, that won’t get wasted. In your life, somehow it will help you, directly or indirectly. Let me give you an example. In my school, there was a subject on sewing. In most schools, there is no class like that. Maybe principals don’t think it's a necessary class. But trust me, this simple class helped me a lot. Generally, I don’t throw out clothes unless it's not fixable.

I didn’t know that anybody noticed me doing this sewing or fixing clothes. One day I was talking with my younger brother about his trousers. I told him that it tore too much, he must give it up. He replied, of course not, you can fix it.

After passing a long time, I was talking with my son that I need some new dresses to wear at home. He replied, why? you can fix your old ones.

Maybe people have trust in my capability more than I have.

Now a day I became so busy that I can’t make time for sewing. There are now piles of cloth to fix. I am trying to take some time for those dresses.

Shafeen in winter cloths

Like all mother I want to protect my son from cold weather in winter. The interesting matter is I never bought any winter cloth for my son. All he has is from his elder (cousin) brother and some came as a gift. What I do is start wearing him as much cloth as needed. If he felt cold his forehead became warm, so I check it every now and then. So, if I understand the cloth isn't enough I wore him more on previous. It works!
