Biography 309: Movie Desh Premee

Like most mothers, my mom also faced trouble feeding her son. She found that only when a TV ad came on, he would freeze and keep watching the advertisement. In that moment, whatever my mom put in his mouth, he would just eat.

As my mom suggested, my dad asked his boss, who has a VCR (Video Cassette Recorder) at home, to record some TV programs on a video cassette. Our house has a VCP (Video Cassette Player), so we couldn't record anything ourselves. Dad's boss was like a family friend; he used to come with his family to our home during Eid. He recorded some beautiful TV commercials on a video cassette. My mom used to play that to feed her son.

When Sifat grows up, this TV-watching habit continues. He used to eat rice by himself in front of a TV. He mostly watches movies. His favourite one was a Hindi movie "Desh Premee" from a video cassette. The leading actors were Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Thakur, and Hema Malini.

He watches this movie so many times in a day that not only he, but we also remember every single dialogue and shot of ithis movie. Sometimes, he even acts out parts of the movie.

My mom was happy, at least her son is eating rice.

Climate Crisis in Movies

People watch movies for entertainment. But with a good story, they also learn many things. Like history, politics, social problems, mental issues, etc.

I think it's time to raise awareness about the climate crisis. People need to be more aware of pollution and the destruction of the environment. A good way to educate people is a movie. Story writers should bring it into focus in the movie.

The very first song I sang

This is the first song I sang. My older sister said I sang this song a lot in my childhood. On those days, others used to ask me to stop. This is not a song for a child. Their activities to try to stop me used to give me more energy to sing this song.

This song is from the movie "Dost O Dushman," a Bangla remake of the Hindi film "Sholay."

Singer: Khurshid Alam

Music: Dewan Nazrul

Lyrics: Alam Khan

Performed by: Shabana and Wasim.

Lyrics [in English]:

chumki choleche eka pothe (Chumki is alone on the way)
songi hole dosh ki state (What would be wrong if I gave a company)
rag koro na sundori go (Beautiful, don't be angry)
ragle tomay lage aro valo (Anger makes you more beautiful)

chumki choleche eka pothe
songi hole dosh ki tate
har menese diner alo
ragle tomay lage aro valo
sundori choleche eka pothe (Beauty is alone on the way)

mukhete gali (Slang on the mouth)
mitha mitha heyali (the sweet gesture)
joto khushi galagali koro lage valo (No matter how much you swear, it will always make me feel good)

mukhete gali
mitha mitha heyali
joto khushi galagali koro lage valo
amake pashe niye cholo na (Why don't you take me with you)
misti kore tumi bolo na (And tell me with your sweet tone)
tomake je ami valobashi (you love me)

chumki choleche eka pothe
songi hole dosh ki tate
har menese diner alo
ragle tomay lage aro valo
sundori choleche eka pothe

o tangaoyali..... rag koro khali (O Horse cart rider, always gets angry)
chabuk rekhe amar hat dhoro sei valo. (Drop the whip and hold my hand; that would be better for you)

o tangaoyali, rag koro khali
chabuk rekhe amar hat dhoro sei valo.
eka eka ei pothe cholo an (Don't go on this way alone)
ar karo nojore poro na (Don't put yourself on others view)
tahole je more jabo ami (That will kill me)

chumki choleche eka pothe
songi hole dosh ki tate
har menese diner alo
ragle tomay lage aro valo
sundori choleche eka pothe

chumki choleche eka pothe
songi hole dosh ki tate
har menese diner alo
ragle tomay lage aro valo
sundori choleche eka pothe

Biography 203: Hindi movie songs

It is a tradition to add songs and dance to movies on the Indian subcontinent. It is like that from the very first movie in this area.

In my childhood, when we watched Hindi films on VCP, we used to fast-forward the songs. This was mainly because they were not watchable with a family (We did it with the love scenes too), or maybe we liked to watch movies without singing and dancing. But we all used to watch the "Chhaya Chhondo" program on BTV (Bangladesh Television). This program was dedicated to film songs. They used to telecast only Bangla Cinema songs. I liked it.

One day, I told one of my schoolmates about this fast-forwarding song. She was surprised. She said watching songs is the main thing for them when watching a movie.

I don't know why, what we avoided in the movie, but liked to watch it separately. That's why sometimes I have heard or watched a song, not the movie. Or watched the movie. not the song.

I also experienced the same feeling.

When movies are so dim, you can’t actually see anything

I felt like this about some recent movies. Especially if the movie is about magic, history or imagination, it shows everything so dark that most of the time, I can see nothing.

The inner meaning of a movie

Sometimes movie makers make movies with an inner message. Symbolically, they try to make people aware of the climate crisis, social problems, and political problems. Sometimes you will see that the movie became a hit, but people just enjoy it, not getting the message the movie maker wanted to deliver.

When I first saw the movie Avatar, I felt they had shown what humans are doing with the aliens. But this is happening with the other races of people in the world. This has been happening for a long time. Whoever has the power searches for valuable resources across the globe. When they find out, they don't care who lives or owns that land; they just use force and take whatever they want. And this history has been repeated for a long time.

Shafeen’s movie choice

Shafeen watching the movie “Planes”

This year Shafeen (my 5 years old son) has seen 4 animation movies. They are
1. Planes (he liked this)
2. Monster’s University (he liked it most)
3. Frozen (he liked this too)
4. Thor (partly seen, didn't like at all)

Among those Shafeen liked most is Monster’s University (2013), so do I, though I didn't watch any of these completely. I have to make time and see those some other day. Then can say correctly.

From the movie Ra.one my son started notice Shahrukh khan

Shafeen (my son) and Tameem (my elder sister’s son) playing like Ra.One

We always get to know about film stars from their acting in movies. When any movie gets our attention, the character player of that movie get our attention too. We became fan of them. Kids are like that too. My son gets interest on Shahrukh Khan from the movie Ra.One. Now whenever he saw him (in award function, other movie) he says, “Hey this is G-one”!
