টাইগার হিল (Tiger Hill)

বাংলাদেশের সুন্দরবনে টাইগার পয়েন্ট আছে, যেখানে বাঘের আনাগোনা বেশি। দার্জিলিং এর টাইগার হিল একটু ভিন্ন কারনে খ্যাত... বেশ খ্যাত তাই ভোর ৪টায় যখন রওনা হলাম, তখন দেখলাম একের পর এক জীপ রওনা হয়েছে টাইগার হিলের পথে ডার্জিলিং থেকে। বিশাল জিপের লাইন। রাস্তায় জ্যাম হয়ে যাওয়ায় আমরা একটু হেটে জীপে উঠলাম। রাতের অন্ধকারে পিছনে যতদূর দেখা গেল শুধু গাড়ির হেড লাইটের সারি। পাহাড়ি রাস্তা দিয়ে একে বেকে আমরা উঠলাম টাইগার হিলে। এখানেও গাড়ির জ্যাম তাই অনেক খানি পথ পায়ে হেটে উঠতে হলো। এর স্মৃতি চিহ্ন স্বরুপ পা মচকে ফেললাম, তারপরও থামার উপায় নেই, সূর্য উঠার আগে আমাদের পাহাড়ের মাথায় উঠতে হবে।

২০রুপি দিয়ে টিকেট কেটে ঢুকলাম, টিকিট দেখালে এক কাপ (প্লাস্টিকের) চা ফ্রী। চা হাতে নিয়ে ভিড়ে ঢাক্কা খেয়ে হাত পুড়ালাম। তাও বারান্দায় যেতে হবে। নাহলে কাঞ্চন জংগা (বানানের জন্য মাফ করুন) কিভাবে দেখব?

ঠেলে ঠুলে বারান্দায় গেলাম। রেলিংয়ের কাছে যেতে পারিনি তবে ভাল একটা জায়গায় দাড়ালাম বাঁ দিকে, যেখান থেকে কান্চন জংগা আর সূর্য দেখা যায়। এরপর শুরু হলো অপেক্ষার পালা। কখন সূর্য ওঠে...

গাইডদের মুখে শুনেছি, রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর কাঞ্চন জংগা (বানানের জন্য মাফ করবেন) ৭বারের বার দেখতে পেয়েছিলেন। আমরা সম্ভবত: তার চেয়ে বেশি সৌভাগ্যবান।

টাইগার হিলের বারান্দা থেকে দেখলাম সুর্য ওঠার আগে ভোরের আলোয় ছায়ার মতোন কাঞ্চন জংগা।
তারপর আলো বাড়ার সাথে সাথে দেখলাম সাদা বরফে ঢাকা চূড়া। সু্র্য ওঠার ঠিক আগ মুহুর্তে চূড়াটা গোলাপি রংয়ে রঙিন হয়ে গেল। সুর্য ওঠার পর হলো লাল। সুর্য যখন পুরোপুরি উঠে গেল তখন উজ্জল হলুদ আলোয় আলোকিত হয়ে গেল।

ঠিক একই রকম ঘটলে পর পর আসে পাশের চূড়াগূলোতে। সেগুলো হলো অর্ন্যপূর্ণা, আরো কি কি যেন নামের চূড়া। এই টাইগার হিল থেকেই দেখলাম এভারেস্টের চূড়া। সাদা বরফে মোড়া কাঞ্চন জংগা থেকে আরো বাঁ দিকে। ভারত থেকেও যে এভারেস্ট দেখা যায় এটা জানা ছিল না।

পরে ডার্জিলিং শহরে ফিরেও দেখতে পেলাম সাদা উজ্জল কাঞ্চন জংগার চূড়া। মনে হলো হোটেলের জানালা দিয়েও পুরো ঘটনা দেখতে পারতাম...

আমাদের গাইড বললেন, সে ৭ বছর ধরে এখানে আসছে, কিন্তু এতো স্পষ্ট আগে কখনও দেখনি।

In Bangladesh there is a place in Sundarban called Tiger Point, where tigers are very much available. In Darjeeling, Tiger Hill is well known for totally different reason. We really surprise when we saw at 4 am all Jeeps are moving only to the Tiger Point from Darjeeling. As traffic jam was huge, we had to walk a little to reach at our booked Jeep. When we started going on the hilly road we can see only head lights as long as we can see the road. At Tiger Point again felt very crowded with jeeps. So, we had to walk to climb up to the pick. And here I got pain on my leg. But couldn't stop. We had to reach there before sun rise.

We paid 20 rupee for each ticket and when we show it at Tiger Hill, they give us a plastic cup of tea free (not bad). I hold the tea cup then try to make place in the crowd to see well the Kangchenjunga, and burn my hand with hot tea. But could make place on the balcony. I found a place from where we can see both the sun and the Kangchenjunga. Then started waiting for the sun rise.

From our guide we get to know that to see the Kangchenjunga, Rabindranath Tagore had visit Darjeeling for 7 times. Well we found we were lucky than him.

From the balcony I had watched the Kangchenjunga like shadow before the sunrise. Then light increased so we could see the white snow over the pick of the Kangchenjunga. Just before the sun rise the pick became pink colored. When the sun rises and its first light fall on the pick of Kangchenjunga it became red. After the full sun rise, the total pick became bright yellow.

Same thing happen with the other picks. They were Annapurna or others (Now forget the names). From the Tiger Hill, I could first see the pick of the Mount Everest. I didn't know that we could see the Mount Everest from India.

When we reached at Darjeeling town, we could see the Kangchenjunga very clear. I guess we could see the total view from our hotel window. Our guide said, he visited this place for 7 years, but never could see this view so clearly like today...
