“Inequality Based on Sexual Orientation”

When we discuss about the sexual orientation, we need to look on many diverse issues.

Nature and Extent of inequality based on sexual Orientation

In 2001 Canada Census first asked to couple about their sexual relation and 34,000 couples informed they are in same sex. Female couples have children 5 times more than make couples. Compulsory Heterosexism is a system where it doesn’t believe any other relationship other than Heterosexual and deny all feelings like gay, lesbian, bisexual, etc.

Ideological bases of inequality based on sexual orientation.

The mainstream writer who might have differences on Jews, Muslims etc., but they accepted the Gay and Lesbian concepts. Religion and sexual orientation: Major reason of discrimination of different sexual groups are because most of the people thinks it morally not appropriate. These beliefs many times come from the religion belief. Law and sexual orientation: In Canada federal and provincial legislation has created many laws to give rights to same sex relations.

Discrimination based on sexual orientation

It’s true, with times more and more people are accepting gay, lesbian, or other sexual people, but still some people are facing hate in different communities. Victimization and hate crimes: The hate crime sometimes goes too far that people beaten up another person and killed only because that person was a gay.

Perspectives on sexual orientation and social inequality

Sexual orientation inequalities can be understood by different perspectives: Interactionist perspectives: focus on in which criteria makes a person declare that the person is a gay, lesbian, etc. Functionalist and conflict perspectives: From this perspective society punish the gay or lesbian because they went against the social norms. Feminist and queer perspectives: the feminist perspective has changed in many ways in last four decades. Queer theory is a post-modern thought. It believes lesbian and gay has different perspective in the critics.

How can inequalities based on sexual orientation be reduced: We should remove social and legal barriers. What can you do? Attend pride day, no matter from which sexual group you came from.
