Biography 164: Misconception about the term Geography

When I heard about Geography, I thought it would be mainly about landscapes, countries, etc. I can do a study on it. In my first class at the University, I understood, I was totally wrong. The same day in my second class, I understood completely that I was in the wrong program. I started thinking about how to escape from this program.

I tried and failed. Because of this mentality, my score needed to improve in the first year. In the second year, I was trying to understand how to engage with this study mentally; again, I could have gotten better marks. In my third year, I started trying to improve myself to get some effects.

In my MSc (Post Graduate), I really tried to come back. Not bad, 1 mark behind in getting a first-class degree. I was happy; at least I did better than my previous scores.

At this present time, I am proud to have studied Geography& Environment (Urban Planning).

To solve problems in the transport services

We should implement these facilities without increasing ticket or service prices to stop trouble in our airport and other transport service systems.

 Any transport company, like a bus, plane, ship, or train, if they cancel the service or delay more than 2 hours, should provide food (Breakfast, lunch and dinner, according to the time of meal) and a resting place with a washroom without any extra charge. If they delay more than 5 hours and can't inform the travellers before 5 hours of the departure, they should provide a hotel room for a family, with meals (3 times, as time passes) without any extra charge.

And in these situations, the traveller should have both options to return the ticket or change it to another day without any fee or harassment.

Even if we put these in the system as optional, like if any company started giving these services, the government would decrease their tax (some percentages).

Without any rule, if any transport company follows this kind of rule, people will feel safer travelling with them.

Niagara Falls (USA)

Niagara Falls (USA). I was on a ship.

People who visit or come to Canada have a must-see on their bucket list. "Niagara Falls." When I was in school a long time back, my aunt (My mom's older sister) came to our house in Bangladesh from the USA. She said that she had visited Niagara Falls. But it's more beautiful from the Canadian side. They put lights on it to make it more attractive. In those days, she lived in the USA with her daughter. Her other daughter was in Canada. So, she could visit Canada and see both parts of the Falls (the USA and Canada).

After coming to Canada, I also wanted to visit Niagara Falls. I had landed in Ontario, but my destination was Saskatchewan. So, I didn't stay in Ontario. After six years of living in Saskatchewan, I moved to Ontario. My friend took me to see Niagara Falls. This happened the during the pandemic. So, we couldn't ride on the ship to have a closer view, and my friend also refused to stay in a hotel. At the end of the day, we returned to another city.

After a year, my cousin again makes a plan. This time we could visit both Falls by ship. It was amazing. Today I have attached a picture of Bridal Veil Falls, USA (Niagara Falls, the USA section). This is the smaller part of Niagara Falls, located in New York. No, I didn't land in the USA.

Biography 163: Benefit's for the University of Dhaka

A student will get some benefits as a student of the University of Dhaka. Most students don't know about it. At least I learned about some of them after a long time and never took any.

There is a free clinic and medicine for students. For mental support in TSC, students can take counselling from a psychologist. There are many students scholarship available. Some are based on halls (dormitories for the students), students have swimming pools, etc.

The inner meaning of a movie

 Sometimes movie makers make movies with an inner message. Symbolically, they try to make people aware of the climate crisis, social problems, and political problems. Sometimes you will see that the movie became a hit, but people just enjoy it, not getting the message the movie maker wanted to deliver.

When I first saw the movie Avatar, I felt they had shown what humans are doing with the aliens. But this is happening with the other races of people in the world. This has been happening for a long time. Whoever has the power searches for valuable resources across the globe. When they find out, they don't care who lives or owns that land; they just use force and take whatever they want. And this history has been repeated for a long time.

Money doesn’t change people

“Money doesn’t change people; it just lets the people be more what they really are.”

We always hear that money speaks; money changes relations and people. Is it true? It sounds true. But are they? NO.

Most people don't do things, not because they shouldn't. But because they don't have the opportunity to do that. Money opens up many opportunities. Then it's the person's choice what they will do with it. And most of the time, you will find, people are engaging with the negative things. When they had the full opportunity to do many good things.

Money didn't change them, just let them be more than what they really wanted to be.

Biography 162: The balcony of the Annex Building

 The Geography & Environment department is in the Annex building at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is in shape like a third bracket. It's a four storied building. 1st level has the Law department, women's common room and a cafe. The women's common is for the whole building; it is decorated so women can rest in the breaks and have an attached washroom. As much as I remember, we had another cafe on the top floor, but I have never been there.

2nd floor is entirely for the Geography & Environment department. The 3rd floor is for the Department of Meteorology (As far as I remember, it was the department of Mathematics when I was studying), and the 4th level is for the Statistics Department.

I liked the corridor/balcony/verandah of our department. No matter where I stand, I can see the whole department and most parts of the other 3 departments, too. I remember we (3 girls who always used to stay together) stood on the balcony before our class and chatted. Our other job was to watch our department, like who was entering, going out, doing what, with whom, etc. Just for time to pass. We might get in trouble if other people knew what we discussed. So, we gave nicknames to our senior boys. Like, Laltu, Chhoto bhai, Mama, etc. Every name has its own story. So, we could freely talk about them. ;) We had to provide our classmate's other name to avoid conflicts.

In my imagination

Do you have any boyfriend? Yes, I have, "He lives in a different Nation. In my ImagiNation."

I heard this from comedians. Though it's told in a comedy, it is true for many people. We can't live alone. So, in our mind, we find someone who is with us. Who loves us, and we love them.

Handle people who mishandled you

"Sometimes, the most crucial test is how you quietly handle those who people so badly mishandled you."

Put your concentration on yourself, not on anyone else. Upgrade yourself with new skills, beautification, etc. And try to make your career and home better. Enjoy your present time, don't waste it by thinking about others who don't deserve you.

It doesn't matter whether they started feeling jealous, tried to communicate with you, got in trouble, or their luck didn't stay with them. Who cares?

Live your life happily. Create and find your own happiness. Rest... let them go and don't bother about their life. One of my friend use to say in Bangla " Dure giya mor". It means, "Go away, then whether you do or die, I won't bother."
