In Bangladesh (And other countries, too), from class 9 (Grade 09) to HSC (Grade 12), we studied mainly in two sections. Science and Humanities. My parents and older sister decided that I should study Humanities. Because I was weak in Math. I followed their instruction and studied in Humanities till HSC.
Then after passing HSC, I thought, why don't I choose subjects myself. Because then I had to select a topic for my studies at the University. My mom wanted me to study Law. She said the way I put logic and argue indicates that I will be good as a lawyer. She wanted a lawyer in the family.
I wanted to study abroad. But I thought my dad was in a government job (In those days, government job holders had significantly less pay). So, he won't be able to bear my costs. So, I dropped that idea. But I like to travel a lot. I heard in the Univesity that only the Geography department takes students to study tours yearly. That was the only way to travel to different places every year.
No matter what my family wanted, I decided to study Geography.
For our pantry, we buy food items or ingredients. Most of the time, we store it in our own jar or container and garbage or recycle (Most of them are not possible) the actual package or container, which came from the production or distribution company.
We can minimize this waste or stop it by using reusable containers when we package the items. First, food shouldn't be contained in any plastic container for health. It should be packaged in a Jar or Reusable container (made of glass, paper, cloth, wood, etc. Or green plastic, which decomposed). Then the refill box should come in a paper or cloth container or package; if not possible, only in a tin container (Which is recyclable). Then there won't be any waste. For example, some bread spread came in a glass. So, after finishing the food item we can use it as a drinking glass. It could be a mug, bowl, plate or jar.
Big companies are using a lot of effort, time and money to make beautiful containers for their products, which is not reusable, and we have to throw them out. Why are we wasting our money and damaging our planet? When we can just use reusable, easy to use in kitchen, and beautiful containers and save our environment.
After passing HSC (In Canada, it is called grade 12), most students get admitted to coaching classes in Bangladesh. So, that they can get selected for the admission test in prominent universities. Now a day, they do this kind of coaching to get admitted to good kindergarten schools (In Canada, it is called pre-schools).
The coaching centers give advertisements and offer gifts that already did good in HSC so that the good students join their centers. When those students get admitted to good places, they will give pictures of them and say they got into good universities because they had coaching classes in particular coaching centers. Some coaching centers take a good amount of money.
If I read the guidebook well, I would get a chance to study at Dhaka University. The best education center in Bangladesh. This was my goal or wish. Students from all over Bangladesh try to learn here, including some foreign countries. If I don't get a chance to be admitted to that University, I will join another university, comparatively less famous.
Before the Dhaka University admission process started, The Eden Mohila College admission due date came. So, I didn't take any chance; who knows whether I would be selected for Dhaka University. I gave an admission test at Eden Mohila College and got chosen to admit to the honours course Geography.
This was the first convocation at the University of Dhaka after gaining independence. I was a little upset about some issues. Like, the organizer should have given us a hat. They had some hats, which were for the seniors. Then many of our friends didn't join because they asked for some fee for this celebration. They thought this was a waste of money, with little to achieve. Finally, they didn't arrange any food for the festival. I don't know about other universities, but I felt every celebration should include food and beverages.
This picture was taken by our traditional photographer Mr. Piyar. I have seen every University and College function to take pictures. Later, students buy from him.

Lyrics
If you wanna run away with me, I know a galaxy
And I can take you for a ride
I had a premonition that we fell into a rhythm
Where the music don't stop for life
Glitter in the sky, glitter in my eyes
Shining just the way I like
If you're feeling like you need a little bit of company
You met me at the perfect time
You want me, I want you, baby
My sugarboo, I'm levitating
The Milky Way, we're renegading
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I got you, moonlight, you're my starlight
I need you all night, come on, dance with me
I'm levitating
You, moonlight, you're my starlight (you're the moonlight)
I need you all night, come on, dance with me
I'm levitating
I believe that you're for me, I feel it in our energy
I see us written in the stars
We can go wherever, so let's do it now or never, baby
Nothing's ever, ever too far
Glitter in the sky, glitter in our eyes
Shining just the way we are
I feel like we're forever, every time we get together
But whatever, let's get lost on Mars
You want me, I want you, baby
My sugarboo, I'm levitating
The Milky Way, we're renegading
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I got you, moonlight, you're my starlight
I need you all night, come on, dance with me
I'm levitating
You, moonlight, you're my starlight (you're the moonlight)
I need you all night, come on, dance with me
I'm levitating (whoo)
You can fly away with me tonight
You can fly away with me tonight
Baby, let me take you for a ride
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm levitating (whoo)
You can fly away with me tonight
You can fly away with me tonight
Baby, let me take you for a ride
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (whoo)
My love is like a rocket, watch it blast off
And I'm feeling so electric, dance my arse off
And even if I wanted to, I can't stop
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
My love is like a rocket, watch it blast off
And I'm feeling so electric, dance my arse off
And even if I wanted to, I can't stop
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
You want me, I want you, baby
My sugarboo, I'm levitating
The Milky Way, we're renegading
I got you (yeah), moonlight, you're my starlight
I need you all night (all night), come on, dance with me
I'm levitating (whoo)
You can fly away with me tonight (tonight)
You can fly away with me tonight
Baby, let me take you for a ride
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (take you for a ride)
I'm levitating (whoo)
You can fly away with me tonight (tonight)
You can fly away with me tonight
Baby, let me take you for a ride
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (let me take you for a ride)
I got you, moonlight, you're my starlight (you are my starlight)
I need you all night, come on, dance with me (come on, dance with me, baby)
I'm levitating
You, moonlight, you're my starlight (you're the moonlight)
In Bangladesh, Baily road is famous for its cultural activities. In the beginning, the roadside shops were Sharees and books. Then it started changing to food courts. The last time I saw it, there was only one bookstore left. The road begins from the Shantinagar four roads node. In the end, it has two prominent colleges and schools. One is Viqarunnina noon college, and another is Siddeshshory girls college. Both are girls' colleges. They called these institutions high schools in Canada until grade 12. After that, we have a Drama theatre.
I found a similar road when I started living in Saskatoon, Canada. It's called Broadway. It started from the 8th Street and Broadway intersection and finished at an overbridge on the river. The road is decorated with beautiful lights. Most of the city's cultural activities happen here by closing the road. In the end, they have a school. Then a Theater. Sometimes, many organizations rent this to show many functions. I have been there to see movies, circuses, school functions, etc.
Sometimes, by mistake, I used to call Broadway road; Baily road.
“Please don’t spend the rest of the days punishing yourself just because someone didn’t see your value, which made you doubt your worth. “
Everybody likes to hear positive opinions about themselves. We always stay alert so that nobody should get a negative impression of us. Now it's an era of social media. People like to have likes, shares and subscriptions or followers.
In this situation, you start feeling low if you hear somebody say something wrong about you. It ruins your whole day. Don't punish yourself this way for someone's opinion who can't see your value. Don't doubt your worth.
শুঠবিজয় দিবস বাংলাদেশ। Happy Victory Day Bangladesh.
How do we make a family tradition? When we do something on a particular day that makes us happy, we want to do that every year.
I like to do things like that. I have started many family traditions for my family and me. We enjoyed that. Most of them are not possible in a new country. But I try.
Here we were together on the Victory day of Bangladesh. It was a great day. I wanted to continue like that every year. Not possible now.
“Don’t blame people for disappointing you; blame yourself for expecting too much from the wrong people.”
We expect, sometimes, without thinking about anything. We hope people will drive their cars carefully, maintaining all rules. We expect our loved ones will love us back, we expect students will always respect their teacher, we expect our employees will work their best for us, we expect our employer will notice our excellent work, we expect our friends will be with us, no matter what happens, we expect our family will stay together. There are uncountable things that we expect from others.
Sometimes others can't stand up according to our expectations. We need to understand many times we expect from the wrong person. Maybe that person doesn't think about us the way we think about them. Perhaps that person doesn't respect you as you do them. It's not always their fault that they couldn't meet our expectations. Sometimes it's our fault that we expect the wrong person.
You will often see people raising their voices in a poorly known meeting. People show off to be rich, sophisticated, wise, beautiful etc. These people always do something to get others' attention. The reality is whoever is really wise doesn't look for attention. They know who they are and work according to their knowledge.
