ঝিলের কালো শান্ত টলটলে জল, কে না ভালোবাসে। কিন্তু নদীর জল যদি কুচকুচে কালো হয়?
আমি এম. এস. সি. করেছি "geography & environment" থেকে, আমার বিভাগ ছিলো "ন গর পরিকল্পনা"। এই সূত্রেই একদিন সার্ভে করতে গিয়েছিলাম নদীর তীরে। নদীর বাঁধের উপর দিয়ে হাঁটার সময় দেখলাম, কুচকুচে কালো রংয়ের পানি। তারমধ্যে আবার নানা রকম ময়লা ভাসছে (বাংগালীরা নদীতে ময়লা ফেলতে ভালোবাসি)। বাঁধের গায়ে সাদা প্লাস্টিক শুকানো হচ্ছে। যা ঐ কালো ঘন ময়লা যুক্ত পানিতে ধোয়া হচ্ছে। বাচ্চা, মহিলা, বুড়ো, জোয়ান, সবাই মহাউৎসাহে, মিশমিশে কালো পানিতে গোসল করছে (চর্ম রোগ অবধারিত)। নদীর মাঝখানে কামরাংগির চর। চরের মাটি দেখা যায় না। চরের সাথে বাস লাগিয়ে মাচা করে চরের জায়গা আরো বাড়ানো হয়েছে। সেখানকার বাথরুম গুলোর বর্ননা আর না দেই। কোথায় আছে না যেখানে খায় ওখানেই...
এই কাজ শুধু গরীবরা করছেনা। শহরবাসীর খাবার পানি ওখান থেকেই ওয়াসা সংগ্রহ করে। আর ওখানেই নাকি সোয়ারেজের...
নদীর কালো পানি দেখতে প্রতিদিন সেতুর উপর শত শত লোক আসে। বিকাল বেলা সেতুর দুপাশে পা রাখার জায়গা থাকেনা।
ধন্য হে কালো নদী। আর কালো নদীর পানি।
মনে হয় আমরা গাছের যে ডালে বসি, সেটাই কাঁটি আবার ঝগড়া করি কার গাছ আর কার ডাল এই নিয়ে।

Who doesn't like natural lake with cool black water? What about deep black water from a river?
I did my M.Sc. from "Geography & Environment", my section was "Urban Planning". That's the reason that we had to make a survey near river. While we were walking over the dam I saw the water of the river is very black. There were different kinds of dirt on the river (We, the Bangladeshi people like to throw dirt on the river). On the dam some people put white plastics to dry; they clean those with that black river water. Kids, women, man, aged people all are taking bath with that black water and enjoying time happily (No doubt about skin disease). There is an island on this river named Kamrangir char. We couldn't see the land of this island because it is surrounded by bamboo made houses, shops, restaurants and toilets. I just feel there is a saying, "You shit where you eat"...
You can't say only poor people polluting the water. I heard Dhaka WASA also collects water from this river and they dump sewerage water on the river... Well they use Shitalakkha river too to collect water.
Every afternoon many people come for recreating on the bridge of this river. You won't find space to put your feet on it, during that time. They watch black colored water and take breath with the stinky water.
God bless this river and its black water.
I think we cut the branch of the tree where we sit and then make argument, that tree is mine or that branch is mine.
