Biography 191: My 2nd journey to Cox's Bazaar (journey)

I and Shumi were standing at the Hotel, in Cox's Bazaar.

 We were in the honours third year at the University of Dhaka. Our field trip decided to go to Cox's Bazar and Teknaaf (The southeast district of Bangladesh). Our professor, Mr. Baki and another professor (I forgot his name) were with us. Mr. Baki's daughter also joined us on this field trip.

Our professor said we would train from Dhaka to Chittagong, then take a bus from Chittagong and go to Cox's Bazaar. In those days, the Dhaka to Cox's Bazaar coach service was newly started. So, Saleh said, why don't we go to Cox's Bazaar directly. Why would we take pain to change the train with luggage? Our professor said girls have some specific needs, so we won't make this long single journey. Saleh stopped.

 He thought what could be a reason. I am a girl, even I was thinking, what could be the reason? Later, Saleh burst on us by saying, I am a boy; I couldn't say anything, why you girls didn't say anything. Well, we were confused, too. And didn't want to make any uncomfortable discussion.

We enjoyed the train journey. The bus couldn't give us this many fun times. On the train, we drank tea several times. Sometimes, others join us, too. Shumi asked if we should pay for all or just for our drinks. I said, let's for us only. We all students can't have the luxury of paying for everything. Saleh didn't like that. He paid for all (Once) and asked the tea seller to return Shumi's money. I knew he tried to make us feel bad. Well, I didn't mind, as long as you pay for me. So, I asked Shumi to enjoy it and not think too much about it. I still believe we made the right decision.

In the Hotel, Shumi and I stayed on the 3rd floor. Sometimes, boys tried to take the power plug off from outside to make us scared. I didn't bother. I just came out and fixed it and again went inside. They understood this one is not going to make us feel anything.

Why do women leave men when they have money.

 Why do some women choose to end their relationships with men who have a lot of money?

I knew some families wanted their wives, less educated and non-working. Non-working doesn't mean they don't have to work, it means they have to work at home full-time, not outside. Non-working means no earning. 

No earnings doesn't mean they can't bring money at home; it means, they can't spend time or energy outside to earn money. They can bring money from their home, parents or wealth.

What's the problem if she has the qualities to earn money? Thinking is, that she might not stay with her husband. 

So, you think, she needs money, that's why she married and stayed with a husband? Can't her family feed her? Or can't she earn her own expenses? Then, after marriage, you have to cut off her money and make her stay with you? Couldn't you give her any other reason to stay with you? Love, respect, care, support, good feelings, nothing?

You won't give anything, only take all her attention, her body, labour, creating and raising your child by her and will also cut off her wings so that she can't fly and find a suitable place to live. More over you will dishonour her by saying she doesn't do anything (Which means not earning money), and she has to live without saying anything, just listening to all the orders from you and your family. No matter how humiliated she felt, how much hard she needed to do, not having good food and rest.

And then you will say money is the only reason to break a family when a woman tries to get out of a humiliated living space?

If you loved women, you would have let her live how she wanted to. And enjoy her company and her love the way she tried to give you.

If she wants to leave you, let her go. Help her to stay safe wherever she wants. Be a man. If she doesn't want to live with you or love you, let her be. Treat her as a human, not like your pet. Respect her and her decision. Fine, someone who wants to stay with you.

Biography 190: Rosher Pitha (Bangladeshi Dessert)

 Rosher Pitha (খেজুরের রসের পুলি পিঠা) is a Bangladeshi dessert. After the fall, in winter, women used to make this dessert. Because in the fall, all crops, especially rice, had been taken out from the field. So, at home, plenty of rice is available in winter. Women used to make rice dumplings with fried sweet coconut and put it in a sweet soup. Which consists of date syrup, milk, coconut, etc. They keep the dumplings inside the soup for a night, and in the morning, it tastes like heaven.

Let's come to the main story. When I was visiting my youngest uncle's home in Cox's Bazaar, one night, my aunt decided to make rosher pitha. At night I also helped her to make a huge amount of dumplings, which she put in the sweet sauce for the night.

The next day, we went to Bandorban (that's another story), and after one night's stay, when we returned, we found all pitha had finished. My aunt couldn't understand how 2 people my cousin and his friend, finished all in one day. Later she got to know that they invited more people to join them to finish the pitha. So, my bad luck that I couldn't taste that pitha. After that, no one made me anything like that, nor did I try to make it. Just never had that dessert anymore.

Tolerating everything without any complaint

 Waiting for a doctor, even when you have an appointment, gives you mental stress. Every time you buy regular medication again, you must wait for the doctor's sign for hours, putting you in intolerable pain. Still, the shake of a Bangladeshi doctor tolerates everything without any complaints.

Actually, I tolerate everything without any complaint.

Today, I have agreed to give $250 to the landlord to clean my house.

Biography 189: My first tour to Cox's Bazaar (The sea beach)

Shekha, our father and I, beside the Red Sea.

 One day, my uncle took us to watch (he literally meant it) the sea. My cousin Ranku Bhai didn't join. His friend, uncle, aunt and their two sons take a bus to Cox's Bazaar.

When we arrived at the sea, my uncle expected me to be surprised. First of all, this is not the first sea I watch. I have seen the Red Sea before. I was surprised by watching the wave. Red sea water is crystal clear and has almost no waves, almost. Here, the water is complete with sand, and the water current is very high.

I wanted to go to the sea, but my uncle stopped me. He said, you can only get wet your feet; that's it. I can't take more risk. If anything happens to you, then what will I explain to Bubu (Sister, my mom)? I couldn't understand then what I should do.

After some moments, my aunt came as a rescuer. She said to me, go to the water and enjoy as much as you want. I will handle your uncle. You arrived here after a long journey and don't know when you will return.

I smiled and went to the water. I didn't go deep water, as I don't know swimming and can't handle the big waves. I saw my uncle and aunt arguing, then my uncle kept walking with me on the sand. Just keep following me as I was walking inside the water.

Later my aunt captured a starfish, she wanted to take home and put in an aquarium, but we didn't succeed. Uncle told her not to jump, laughing with me too much. No woman is doing like her, so she should be more conservative. I didn't like this, but my aunt stopped playing with me.

We take lunch and taste the local food. It taste's great.

We sat on the sand to see the sunset. It was amazing.

After the sunset, we came back by bus to my uncle's home. My cousin stayed alone at home the whole day with an angry face.

A gift on the Chinese New Year

Received a present during Chinese New Year.

Our manager was of Asian descent, and although I wasn't certain of their specific country of origin, I recall hearing them speak Mandarin. On the occasion of Chinese New Year, we were each given a lovely envelope. Inside, I found $5--not a significant sum, but the gesture truly brightened my day. I'm always appreciative of thoughtful gifts.

Biography 188: to avoid ghosts

I used to read books (Non-academic) from very childhood. In those days, I read some old traditional fiction books, like "Thakurmar's Jhuli," "And Thakur Dadar Jhuli." Most of those stories are about Kings or princesses. There are some ghost stories too.

In one story, it said, there were ghosts everywhere in the village. One person gets out from there somehow by saying this:

 "ভুত আমার পুত/ bhut amar put , 

শাকচুন্নি ঝি/ Shakchunni jhee, 

বুকে আছে রাম লক্ষন/ Buke achhe ram lokkhon,

করবি আমার কি./ Korbi amar ki"

In Bangla, it is called, "Mantra" to avoid ghosts. I was in grade 2. I believed it. I memorized it as a solution to get rid of ghosts. Never used it. Among many, this was a misbelieve from my childhood.

A funny song

 In the movie, it's a funny song. Though, I liked it.

At least, I tried.

 4 months is quite a long time to achieve any short-term goal. My goal was to do some pending tasks I had planned after coming to Canada. But I was working all the time, so I needed more time. So, this year I took a break. I needed to give myself some time to take a break. Break from work or study, so I can concentrate on other parts of my life. 

In some matters, I could complete my plan; in most cases, I couldn't. The only destruction was me. So, many things were running in my mind, making things more complex for my mind and body. So, I stopped, take a pause. Now again started getting the speed. I don't know how far I will be able to go, but I will try. At least I tried.

In life, we can face so many things. Sometimes we fall and don't find any way to get up and move on. Sometimes we feel we need to do something about a matter, but because of many issues, that has never been done.

No matter how big and tough your journey is, it will never be done if you do not start. So, just need to move on; let's start with one step.

Look at the real-life situation. One man single handed cut a hill and made a path. He kept going from one step to another.

Biography 187: My first tour to Cox's Bazaar (aunt's great activities)

 My aunt's nickname is "Khuki" (Which means a small cute kid). I met her when I was very young. I found her a beautiful lady with big eyes and an amazing smile. The best thing she has is her speaking quality. She can become friends with anyone. My uncle is the youngest son of my grandfather (Maternal), so I have seen my aunt very humble with all older people.

I have seen her another role after visiting her home in Cox's Bazaar. She made the house very simple and pleasant. She cooks delicious food for all. She manages her two kids, and later they have one daughter too. I have seen how she cared for everyone, including me. She monitored every person's choices and food habits and prepared food according to that information.

She bought fresh food ingredients for us. Every day she made different traditional kinds of food for us and at the end, she prepared traditional festival food (Like polao, korma, salad and more). She made "Pitha" (traditional Bangladeshi cake) for us too.

I was there for a week, and during this time, cold relations continued between my uncle and cousin. My cousin later showed his anger toward me too. My aunt always talked with everyone, including my cousin and his friend, to minimize the problem; things improved but never vanished.

Later when my aunt met with my mother, she said many good things about me to my mother, like how I behaved with all and helped my aunt with her work etc. I found this is an outstanding quality in her too.

In our country, traditionally, sisters don't like their brother's wife. My mom followed that tradition always. But I always felt my aunt is a great woman. I tried to learn a lot from her. Especially the way she handled the guest and later spoke about them to others.

All schools should have AC

All schools should have air conditioning. In the hot weather, we think about ourselves; that's why we put AC in homes, offices and other workplaces. We think about aged people too, so we install AC in old homes. But what about kids? They are tiny, and can't talk for themselves to the authority that doesn't mean whole day they have to stay in a place where AC isn't available. Especially those attending classes on the top floors, do you know what trouble they face?

Vaccine for Covid-19

After taking 1st booster shot.

This picture was taken in Walmart Pharmacy. After taking the vaccine, I waited 15 minutes in their given area. To be sure, there are no immediate side effects.

I go to Walmart to shop regularly. Because the price is better and availability of different kinds of products. I heard some customers saying if they bring cars, people will buy from here too because those will in less price than others.

It's easy to take any vaccine from Walmart Pharmacy. I booked online and then went there on time. There was no line for the walk-in vaccine.

My mom had completed her four years nursing degree. She practiced for several years in Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia. Because of her, I knew the vaccine and how it worked.

That's why I never hesitated to take the vaccine as much as they are instructed to take from the health department.

Biography 186: My first tour to Cox's Bazaar (childhood activities of my cousins)

Here Shafeen brought some snow inside the house.

 I have seen some childhood activities of my cousins in that house. They are living in South Africa now. Got married and settled down.

When I went to their house, both cousins were in elementary school. They were doing excellent results in school on those days. All credit goes to my aunt. I have seen how patiently she used to sit with them and help them to study.

Tonoy is the older son. He used to give me company all of the time. He said he can sing well. I showed him dance in a contract that he would sing a song for me. But after my dance, he decided not to sing.

His younger brother is Tonmoy. Most of the time, he runs away from me whenever I try to talk with him. But always followed me from a distance. Just keep smiling at me. My aunt's first duty is to check his pockets when he falls asleep. He kept his whole world in his pockets, like toys, marbles, fruits like oranges, wires, etc. My aunt showed me that he broke the cupboard net to take out malta (fruit). He used to play outside and come home with a whole body of dust. My aunt first took him to the shower and let him go to the bedroom.

After my death

 When I found out a friend had died, thoughts about death came to my mind seriously. What will happen after my death to my son, how he will manage everything, etc. Though I have no control over any of it. Just trying to make things easy for my son.

He is still very young to understand my words. Maybe he will never understand his mother. I just tried to prepare him as much as I could. I can try, and I am doing that as efficiently as possible.

 My uncle rented a house in a village near Cox's Bazar City. From the bus, we took rickshaws to that house. From the main road, we went inside the village on a narrow road. We passed a village market also on our way. Then we stopped at a place. Then we had to walk through a jungle (it looks like) for a few minutes to reach the house. It was a one-storied concert house, but the roof was made of tin shed. There were little open spaces at the front and a backyard too. Later my cousin drew a selfie on the soil of that front open space. I didn't have a camera or cell phone to capture it. The doors and windows were made of wood.

I am trying to explain in detail the house because I liked it. After reaching home, was walking around and talking with my uncle's two tiny sons, Tonoy and Tonmoy. My aunt became very busy preparing food for these unannounced guests. But she seems kind of used to this situation. My uncle bought some mattresses for the guests.

My uncle was really surprised by me. He said the way you were throwing out, I thought you would lay down on the bed.

Later, when we returned to Dhaka, my brothers sat in another place, not beside me ;). They scared. Though I became an expert in handling myself on the bus so things didn't get nasty.

Here I met with Tomony and Tonmoy's teacher. She had a great personality. Everybody liked her because of her sweet and helpful behaviour. She was a student too. After the exam, she got some time to do tuition for the kids.

She took me to her friend's house. I felt really difficult for their conservation. Chittagong and Cox's Bazar has different language accents, which is difficult or impossible to understand in the other part of Bangladesh. In this house, they gave me local fruits that were very delicious. I told them I couldn't understand their language, so they started speaking in front of me on some topic which they might not want me to know. I actually understood some of it and guessed the rest of the conversation. No, I didn't reveal those to anybody.

From this house tutor, I have learned how to tell a story. She tells every single detail in a way that everybody will stop doing their work and listen to her. I was amazed. Later, when I used to describe storied in college, my classmates said, we like how you tell us the story. All credit goes to my cousin's teacher, whom I never met again.

They are different.

 Speaking less and can't speak is not the same.

Don't know how to bring logic to an argument and decided not to argue are not the same.

People who don't want to talk with you and who can't find words to communicate with you are not the same.

People who are in trouble and who use trouble as an excuse are not the same.

Though we constantly mix up with these kinds of people.

The history of hunting will always glorify the hunters.

Some people say history will bring out the truth. Or, someday, the truth will come in front of you. Do they always? 

The truth or telling you a story from every angle of the incident totally depends on the historian. When a movie comes, it always gives a message and influences the audience. The movie maker has the credit to do that to the viewers. No matter how much they try, a general person will be influenced, more or less. It could be from a book, history, passerby, or someone they admire. When a predator writes history, they will obviously glorify the hunters. It could happen with animals, humans, or nature. It could be by written documents or a reel. You never know how it is influencing you. This influence works more for those who have no idea about the matter. So, whatever they first hear, influences them more.

Work with a peace of mind

I prefer to work in a peaceful environment without feeling rushed, stressed, lazy, or overly relaxed. It's important to me to maintain a pace that allows me to complete tasks on time without feeling exhausted or pressured. I enjoy taking my time to savour each moment.

Thanks to this approach, I've been able to complete most of my work on time without experiencing much stress. However, sometimes I've struggled to finish everything due to time constraints. I'm always looking for ways to improve myself and become more efficient.

Recently, I've started to feel overwhelmed and stressed. I have faith that everything will work out, and I'm determined to handle any challenges that come my way with grace and dignity.

Despite my relaxed demeanour, I work hard to complete my tasks on time. People often don't realize how much effort I put in until I'm no longer around to do it.
